Week 9 Update

I can't believe we have already been in school for nine weeks! The time has flown by. Here's what we'll be doing each day this week:

Monday 9/29: 
Adjective notes (articles, demonstrative and interrogative adjectives, nouns used as adjectives)
Meet one-on-one with Ms. Cook to receive grade printout before report cards
Adjective worksheet (both sides) and work book pages.
Homework: Flashcards for Vocabulary Lesson 10

Tuesday 9/30: 
Adjective review; check vocabulary flashcards
Check yesterday's worksheet
Begin this week's "Lives of the Writers" assignment

You will be reading six mini biographies of influential authors. Then you will complete a graphic organizer and answer 10 questions about each of them. This is a great chance to bring your grade up at the end of the 9 weeks. This assignment will be a 100 point grade.

Homework: Vocabulary Lesson 10 Exercises

Wednesday 10/1: 
Grammar Review, check vocabulary exercises
Continue "Lives of the Writers" assignment

Thursday 10/2: 
Grammar Review
Continue "Lives of the Writers" assignment.

2nd Period will take their QUIZ today because of the PBS Celebration on Friday.

Friday 10/3: Weekly Quiz #9
Writing assignment/finish "Lives of the Writers" if necessary.

The End of Unit One

This is the last week in our short story unit! Here's what's on the schedule:

Monday: 
-Go over Vocab Lesson 7 words
-Work individually or with a partner to demonstrate your knowledge of how ALL short story elements work together.
-Read "The Gift of the Magi"
-Homework: Flashcards

Tuesday: 
-Helping Verbs
-Continue working on "The Gift of the Magi"
-Homework: Vocabulary Exercises

Wednesday: SUBJECT TO CHANGE
-If necessary, finish "Magi"
-Work on study guide for Unit One Test in class
-Finish study guide for Unit One Test at home

Thursday: 
-Review day in class

Friday: 
-Test day!
-Bring notebook paper, something to write with, and a silent reading book!
-You may turn in your completed study guide for bonus points.

Next week should be colorful!


Next week you will need to bring at least six different colored writing instruments to class--they can be pens, markers, highlighters, crayons, or colored pencils. I have some colored pencils and crayons available for use in class, but not many, so please bring your own!

We will be using each color to represent a different short story element and annotating or marking up a copy of O. Henry's famous short story "The Gift of the Magi."
